Listen up, credit builders; it’s National Credit Education Month!

Some people might argue that more important things take place in March. The start of Spring, for example, or St. Patrick’s Day. Well, they’d be wrong. Your credit score is one of the most important numbers in your life, and this is the best time of year to learn all about it.

Here are four great ways to celebrate National Credit Education Month.

  1. Check your credit score.

Use CreditKarma for a free and in-depth report in real time. All three credit bureaus – Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion – also let you get a copy of your credit history at least once a year. Check up on your credit score and credit history, and correct errors if you find them.

  2. Start reporting your rent.

Rent reporting is a powerful but underused way to boost your credit. In 2018, LevelCredit conducted a study looking at more than 36,000 of its users. On average, the data showed scores increased by an average of 20+ points in two months, and 50+ points after two years.

  3. Meet the month’s payment deadlines.

Being an early or on-time payer is a wise move. Your good behavior gets reported to the credit bureaus and your credit score benefits. This March is the perfect time to establish this positive habit.

  4. Reduce debt.

This month, if you can, improve your credit score by paying off debt. This responsible behavior will never go unnoticed by your creditors.
